Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Specialized care for your pelvic health needs
Understanding Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy focuses on the muscles of the pelvis (the area between the pubic bone and tailbone) and their surrounding structures. The pelvic floor is an important group of muscles that assist with urinary/bowel health and continence, sexual health and support of nearby organs such as the uterus and bladder.
Our specialized pelvic floor physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat a wide range of conditions that affect this area, helping to restore proper function and alleviate discomfort or pain.

What to Expect During Your Visit
Initial Consultation
Your first session begins with a thorough discussion of your medical history, current symptoms, and health goals. This helps us understand your unique situation and develop a targeted approach.
Comprehensive Assessment
Based on your history and concerns, your therapist may recommend an external and/or internal pelvic floor examination. This helps evaluate muscle strength, tone, and function. Your comfort is our priority, and we ensure you feel safe and informed throughout the process.

After your assessment, your therapist will explain their findings and work with you to develop a customized treatment plan. This may include manual therapy, exercises, behavioral modifications, and education to address your specific needs.
Home Exercise Program
You'll receive a personalized home exercise program to complement your in-clinic treatment. These exercises are crucial for reinforcing progress and achieving long-term results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect during my first visit?
Our initial assessments are always 1-hour; 1:1 sessions. We will spend time discussing your past medical history and current concerns related to your pelvic health. Based on your history and concerns, an internal or external pelvic floor exam may be recommended by your provider. Your comfort throughout the session is our primary concern - your provider will work with you to determine what the best assessment/treatment options are and ensure you feel comfortable and empowered to make your own decisions.
What happens after my assessment?
After the assessment, the therapist will provide recommendations and work with you to develop a treatment plan. This will include home exercises and home management techniques. They will also recommend a time for a follow-up session. These sessions are typically 30-minutes in length and 1:1 with the provider.
Do I need a doctor's referral to book an appointment?
No, a doctor's referral is not required to book an appointment for pelvic floor physiotherapy. However, some insurance providers may require a referral for coverage, so it's worth checking with your insurance company first.
Is pelvic floor therapy only for women who have given birth?
No, pelvic floor therapy is beneficial for many individuals, regardless of gender or childbirth history. While pregnancy and childbirth can affect pelvic floor health, many other factors such as aging, surgery, chronic coughing, constipation, or high-impact activities can also contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction.
How long will I need treatment?
The duration of treatment varies depending on your specific condition and how your body responds to therapy. Some people notice improvements after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from a longer course of treatment. Your therapist will discuss your individual treatment plan and timeline during your assessment.
